Amegy Bank offers a great variety of checking accounts to choose from.  In fact there are six altogether – Free, Smart Yield, Free with Interest, Interest, Mylife, and 50+ Free.  We will not go into each and every account into great detail but we will cover Free Checking and Smart Yield Checking for this section of the bank review.  If you are interested in the other checking accounts offered please visit www.amegybank.com for more information.  Amegy Bank’s Free Checking account requires a $1,000 minimum opening deposit online, but there are no minimum balance fees, maintenance fees, or per-check charges to have to worry about.  What is great about the account as well is that when one overdrafts on the account the fee for doing so is only $5 per day.  Amegy Bank’s Smart Yield Checking account offers a unique tiered system when it comes to interest rates offered.  First of all it is important to mention that there is a $100 minimum opening deposit requirement, as well as no maintenance fees and no surcharge fees for ATM transactions.  The interest rate starts at 0.05%, which is below average when it comes to checking accounts that offer interest.  However, if one meets certain daily conditions such as using a debit card at least 10 times per month the interest rate increases to an astounding 1.50% APY.  This is one of the highest interest rates that anyone will ever find, and if it weren’t for the conditions we might have rated Amegy Bank’s checking accounts higher.
