Aurora Bank offers a standard savings account insured by the FDIC. The interest rate on the account is currently at 0.89% (July 2011), which is competitive among other banks but certainly not the highest rate you will find out there. However, there is an interesting fee that should be noted for anyone interested in getting a savings account at Aurora Bank. The bank has what is known as a “Dormant Account” fee where if one does not use the account for a specific period of time they can have money taken away from the account. For Aurora Bank one is charged a $5 fee if the account is not active for a period of approximately three years. If a bank truly valued its customers why would it charge a fee for keeping funds in an account for an extended period of time? It is an interesting question that should be considered when truly thinking about opening a savings account at Aurora Bank.
