Bank Reviews | Best Banks
Bank Reviews can help you find the best banks. At Banktruth.org we strive to provide you with all the information you would need to know about the online bank you are researching. It is important to review each bank’s accounts, services, and customer approval rating. It is important to know if your bank will survive the economic downturns. Is it likely that your bank is going to change it’s best rates and when? We read the fine print and put it into our bank reviews so that you can get the information you need about the best online banks. In our “Bank Reviews” section, we provide you with an in-depth review about each of the following FDIC Insured banks. Simply click on the bank’s name you are reviewing, and you will directed to the bank review specific to that bank. Each review will have relevant bank posts, video reviews, and content pertaining to that bank. It is important to get an overall feel of the bank into which you will be investing your money.
Find the Information You Need
Finding a home for you money is a pretty serious task. You want to make sure your needs and wants are matched up with the financial institution you are trusting with your funds, and is definitely worth a decent amount of research. The best way to really tell how a bank is doing is to find the people currently using their services. Looking for bank reviews can really help you narrow down what you’re looking for.
When you’re looking at bank reviews, be clear on what topics are important to you. Are you looking into their customer service issues?
What are their policies on opening new accounts? How do their interest rates work? What kinds of services to they offer? Are they running any regular promotions or bonuses? Knowing what is important to you will tremendously help you interpret your findings.
When looking at a specific bank, you can look up reviews by doing a search for them online. Granted, this mainly works well with larger chain banks, but you can sometimes find local banks reviewed online. Just type in the bank name and attach the word “review” to your query, and read through the results you find. Often times banks may even have their own social site, like a blog or forum, so you can read first hand how they interact with their customers online.
You can also look up bank reviews on aggregated sites, where users can submit their comments and feedback. Sites like this offer comparison pages on different banks in a variety of categories, and also offer space for consumers to sound off on their first and last picks. Again, this tends to only be a useful system to use if you are looking for larger banks, but again it’s worth a look to see if you find some local places.
And don’t underestimate the power of word of mouth. Asking your friends, family and coworkers for their bank experiences is often the best (and most reliable) review you can find. Be clear on what you’re looking for, and ask in depth questions about their experiences to really get a clear picture of their banking experience.
Make sure to keep an open mind while searching for bank reviews. Weigh all pros and cons, and take the time to find different reviews before making your decision. Try not to make a snap decision after one glowing, or one ranting review. After all, it’s your money; make sure you’re happy with what you’re doing with it!
Bank Account Reviews
Not only do we review banks, but we also review each of their best accounts in a specific post. This helps our users get an overview of the bank and also the specific account they are researching. Our bank account reviews are posted into categorized areas: the best cd rates, the best savings rates, and the best money market rates. Even in these economic times, it is possible to find the best banks and the best rates, and bank reviews will help you do just that.

I want to share a horrible experience I had with Bank of Internet (BOI). I lost my job and was out of work for a month. I got a new job but I had to wait a month for my first check. I thought it would be a good time to move to an internet only bank and save on fees. Having no money I paid the penalty to withdraw from my 401k to cover my rent at my apartments. I deposited a check from Fidelity on November 29th. I wrote a check to cover my rent on December 3d. On December 6th BOI still had a hold on my check. I contacted them and was told it would not be released until December 9th. This is their policy for check deposits. I called Fidelity and they informed me the check had cleared the bank on their end. Contacted BOI again but still they will not release my funds so my rent check will clear. Now my rent check has bounced, I have no money and the apartments informed me it will cost me 100 dollars late fees to pay on the 9th. So I already paid penalties for withdrawing from my 401k, now late fees with rent all because BOI does not care about people and their hard times, only their policy. The check has cleared the funds are there but BOI won’t give me access to my own money. I do not recommend Bank of the Internet and I give them a ZERO in customer service.

I have not found a more interesting & informational blog on banking. I think everyone should use this site first before investing in a bank. It helps a lot to see what other’s experiences are as I would prefer a bank from positive word of mouth then learning the hard way.

Hi,
I just closed my checking account because I had to pay $70 dollars in overdraft fees for two small transactions. I admit that I did not read the fine print on a separate page, however, the practice from Bank Atlantic is to advertise “Overdraft Charges” as “Overdraft Assistance” and this is not correct. Much less when the ad is intentionally designed to make it so easy to join by just a click with the terms and conditions on a separate page. Again, advertising it as “Assistance” is not the same as a “Charge”. Shame on Bank Atlantic!
Thank you.

COMMERCE BANK – FAILURE OF EPIC PROPORTIONS
Didn’t have any problems when I was with them from around 2006-2008. Joined the military in 2007, switched to USAA in late 2008….come around May 2011 (about 3 weeks before my second deployment overseas) I’m notified by a debt collection agency that I owe 217 dollars for no apparent reason to Commerce Bank. I’m like..ok let’s see what happened 2 to 3 years ago, maybe I messed up somewhere. I call. I get no help. I get transferred to recovery. I leave a message with the required information. I don’t get a call back for over a week. Finally I call back and get ahold of the recovery personnel. She also tells me she can’t get my records and to call the bank where I had my account (which I had already done). I call the bank where I had my account. They, of course, can’t find anything or pull any records up. I am repeatedly redirected to an answering machine for the recovery department. There are, apparently, only two people that deal with account recovery and the one i managed to actually get a hold of (after calling her a second time, having not been called back due to my message i left for her a week earlier) can’t do anything to tell me why I owe 217 dollars. The ONLY information ANYONE knows is that supposedly I overdrafted …2 years ago? And I’m just now hearing about it ? Also I’m very financially sound, and not to my knowledge have I ever overdrafted. And they expect me to pay 200 bucks for…no apparent reason. Can’t find any files, can’t tell me why i overdrafted or how. All they do is direct me to the recovery personnel that can’t tell me anything either. Good support team there, Commerce. Way to raise the standard. I could only recommend this bank to…hmm…nope can’t think of anyone I’d recommend this bank to. I’ve never been so dissatisfied with customer service in my entire life. Despicable.

Ally bank should be avoided. I have had nothing but trouble with them putting holds on all my deposits, including cashiers checks for up to 9 days. Customer care is no help as I never got the same answer twice each time I complained. And don’t even bother reading the “deposit agreement” with your new account as they seem to be operating on a completely different set of rules.

what a great site, i learned about online banking, even banks in other countries. Biy how the rules are different at different banks. You really can use this web site to find the best one for you.

Don’t Trust Suntrust.
While not listed here, they ought to be. After having five day holds needlessly placed on my paychecks, I was told “it must be the other bank”. That turned out not to be the case; it was Suntrust holding my funds, even after they had received them. While their in branch staff are friendly, they don’t have the authority to help you in this situation; that would be the “Loss Prevention” department, who only works bankers hours.
After having this experience, I looked up reviews at several online sites, and Suntrust rates terribly low; about 1-2 out of 5 stars consistently. It would be helpful to include them in your site as a warning to those clever enough to look up bank reviews before they open an account.
